Staying in Toronto Furnished Apartments? Explore the Niagara Icewine Festival

January 30, 2013

One of Ontario’s greatest claims to fame is the production of ice wine. This dessert wine is not very common, due to the fact that it requires some very specific conditions in order to grow the grapes and harvest them at the right time. That being said, Canada is one of the world’s largest producers of ice wine, 75% of which is produced here in Ontario. If you will soon be staying in Toronto furnished apartments then you would be doing yourself a disservice by not checking out the Niagara Ice Wine Festival, a celebration of Ontario’s ice wine making tradition.

An Annual Affair

The Ice Wine Festival is an annual tradition here in Ontario, one which is eagerly anticipated by wine lovers. This year the event starts on January 11th and goes on through January 27th. During that time, you can tour the various wineries along the Wine Route and attend a number of special events that occur only during the festival. Such events include a series of seminars called All You Need is Cheese in which you can discover which cheeses are best paired with the wines that you will be sampling, as well as the Xerox Icewine Gala, otherwise known as The Ice Queen’s Ball, in which you can wine and dine in style. The best way to experience the festival is by purchasing a Discovery Pass, which gives you access to eight different wineries. If you don’t want to drive yourself, shuttle services are available during the event.

A Fine Pairing

Once you are done taking in all of Ontario’s wine country, then you will no doubt need a place to recuperate. Toronto furnished apartments are a great option for vacation travelers and are usually more affordable then long term hotels.
